Tomorrowland Foundation has officially opened its fourth Music & Arts School, marking a major milestone as its first creative education facility on the African continent. The new school launched today in the Langrug Community, just outside Franschhoek in South Africa’s Western Cape.

The project represents a collaboration between Tomorrowland Foundation and the Langrug Community Centre (LCC), creating a dedicated space where local children and youngsters can access music, dance, art education and creative expression opportunities.

This latest school follows earlier Tomorrowland Foundation Music & Arts Schools established in Nepal, India and Brazil. The Langrug location strengthens the foundation’s long-term commitment to empowering vulnerable youth through creative education programs.

The Langrug Community Centre sits in the heart of Langrug, a growing informal settlement on Franschhoek’s outskirts. Home to thousands of residents, the community faces daily challenges including poverty, unemployment and limited access to essential services. Despite these obstacles, Langrug maintains a strong spirit of creativity, ambition, and untapped potential.

What started in 2012 as a simple soup kitchen has evolved into a community-driven hub providing practical support through food initiatives, education, skills development, and employment-focused activities. The centre helps individuals and families build more self-sufficient lives while placing particular emphasis on empowering children and youngsters.

With Tomorrowland Foundation’s support, the LCC has built a major new creative facility. The Music & Arts School covers more than 400 square meters across two floors, complemented by an open terrace. Built with modular units, the school features fully equipped classroom spaces designed specifically for music, dance, visual arts, reading and other forms of creative expression.

The school will offer structured after-school programs every afternoon for children and youngsters aged 6 to 16. By introducing creativity in a safe, inspiring environment, the program aims to strengthen self-esteem and stimulate talent development.

Over the coming years, LCC plans to gradually expand the program toward a daily capacity of up to 600 children and youngsters. The lessons will be supported by teachers, artists and facilitators, with a strong focus on involving and training people from within the Langrug community itself.

The project is led by a devoted local team including founder Janet Johnson, who coordinates initiatives and partnerships, and tour manager Nasiphi Notoza, who oversees daily operations. Belgian singer Kathleen Aerts (former K3 member) and Steven van Hoof serve as international ambassadors, using their platform and South African connections to attract attention and long-term support for Langrug.

The Tomorrowland Foundation continues expanding its global reach through creative education, bringing the festival’s community-building spirit to vulnerable youth worldwide.
